Beavers overtake Washington in Pac-12 tournament opener

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Garret Forrester and Gavin Logan Every homered as second-ranked Oregon State hit 17 times in a 13-8 win over No. 7 Washington on Wednesday night at Scottsdale Stadium.

Thursday’s win not only moved the Beavers (42-13) into the winners bracket, but also defeated Washington for the 11th timeth Time in a row about the huskies. OSU is 15-1 against UW (30-25) in their last 16 games.

Forrester hit his fifth home run of the season in the fourth inning, marking a five-run frame for the Beavers after Washington went 6-2 in the top half of the inning. The three-run blast began on a night he drove in four after also hitting a sacrificial fly in the seventh inning.

Forrester ended the night with two hits and two runs. Logan, Jacob Melton and Jake Dukart All had three hits to speed up the OSU offense, which saw all nine of Oregon State’s starters record at least one hit.

Logan hit his third home run of the season in the Beavers’ seventh two-shot run. Wade Mecklerwho hit with two walks, two RBI and two runs hit a sac in the eighth to cover the night.

Washington’s Ryan Velazquez accepted the loss after conceding one hit and three runs in an inning. He’s 3-1 on the year. Victory started Mitchell Verburgwho improved to 5-3 with 1 1/3 innings of relief.

Ben Ferrer and Ryan Brown combined to lock out the last four innings for OSU and keep the Huskies on five hits and a walk with six strikeouts.

Oregon State plays the winner of California and UCLA in the final game of Thursday’s action. The Bruins and Golden Bears started the action around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday night. OSU’s game on Thursday is expected to start between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. and is dependent on the completion of the game involving Stanford and Arizona.

– Oregon State scored five runs in the bottom half of the fourth. The half inning lasted 36 minutes.
Justin Boyd became the third Beaver to bat and close at leaoff court that season Wade Meckler and Travis Bazzana.
Garret Forrester has hit home runs in consecutive games for the second time in his career. He also played in Washington on March 27th and 29th last season.
