Betty J Knupp

Betty J. Knupp, 99, of Warren, PA., passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, October 13, 2022. She was born on September 18, 1923 in Warren, PA to the late William J. and Lena Gifford Freedom. Betty was a lifelong resident of Warren. She graduated from Warren High School in 1941. Until recent years, she regularly went to lunch with her classmates. She kept in touch with them and enjoyed spending time with them. Betty worked for the Times Observer as a proofreader for a time and then was manager of the Jean Carroll Hat Shop for ten years. After they closed the doors, she went to work at the Levinson Brothers department store. A few years later, she retired from the Carnahan Men’s Clothing Store. Betty has been a dedicated member of the First Lutheran Church of Warren since 1943. She was a Sunday School teacher for several years, was active in the Church Women’s Group, and in the Senior Fellowship. She was also an active volunteer in our community, helping various organizations. She enjoyed socializing with her close friends and loved making new friends. Among her friends, Betty will be remembered for the summer picnics on her back porch. However, her best days were the days she spent with her family. She loved her family. Family meant the most to her. She enjoyed holidays, birthdays, and the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty loved tending her garden and flowers, baking Christmas cookies and collecting owls. She will be missed forever by her family and will be remembered as a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Betty is survived by their two sons, Michael L. Knupp and his wife Priscilla and Daniel W. Knupp and his wife Kathy, two sisters, Ann Arzner and Beatrice Reynolds, all of Warren, Pennsylvania, five grandchildren, Lisa Johnson, Matthew Knupp and wife Shona, Karly Howell and husband Nick, Kristy Fry and husband Tyler, Shawn Littlefield and wife Savannah, nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband Robert F. Knupp, who died July 23, 1986, whom she married on February 7, 1942 in Frewsburg, NY, their beloved son David R. Knupp, who died unexpectedly on April 29, 1982 passed away, two sisters, Faye Anderson, Marie Atwell and her longtime friend and traveling companion George Boyer.

Friends may call the First Lutheran Church, 109 W. Third Street, Warren, PA. Monday, October 17, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. when a funeral and surrender service will be held with Rev. Jeffrey Ewing, pastor becomes . Burial will be at Warren County Memorial Park. Those wishing to build memorials can do so through the First Lutheran Church Building Fund or a charity of their choice.
