U of A-Team is preparing to meet Eyra Perez during the AAC & U Virtual 2021 Institute on High Impact Practices and Student Success

All lecturers, staff and students at the university are invited to register Here to join the Highly Effective Educational Practices (HIP) discussion at the Arkansas Union Ballroom from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm Friday, July 30th. Seats are limited.

Examples of all 11 practices with a high impact are present on our campus. Many will be featured either as part of the Virtual HIP Escape Room, available to the campus community July 26-29, or in the U of A HIP Library. Information is available at hips.uark.edu.

According to the AAC & U, the 11 influential practices are:

  • Seminars in the first year,
  • Common intellectual experiences,
  • Learning communities,
  • Intensive writing courses,
  • Collaborative tasks and projects,
  • Bachelor research,
  • Diversity / global learning,
  • ePortfolios,
  • Service Learning / Community-Based Learning,
  • Internships and
  • Capstone courses and projects.

Wellness programs are also very important to U of A students and are included in the conversations.

In addition, a team from U of A visited the Association of American Colleges and Universities virtual institute for High-Impact Practices and Student Success in June 2021. Team members included Deb Korth, team leader, teaching professor, and director of Student Success for Arts and Sciences; Stephanie G. Adams, director of faculty development; Anthony DiNicola, Inclusion Officer for the Chancellery; Brian Hurley, Associate Director, Academic Engagement, Student Success Center; CJ Mathis, Director of TRIO Student Support Services; and Lynn Meade, Lecturer in the Department of Communication and Co-Director of the Teaching Faculty and Support Center.

The HIP discussions are sponsored by the ARSC Student Success Team; Center for Multicultural and Diversity Education; Diversity, Equal Opportunities and Inclusion Department; Center for Student Success; Teaching faculty and support center; Teaching innovation and educational support; and many others.
