Moving somewhere unfamiliar every few years is extremely stressful for our military families. To ensure a smooth transition, the Army Community Service is here to assist those new to Fort Detrick. As service members in the process via ACS, they get an overview of the available services, including job placement,
Family support and support for new parents.
As a new resident of Frederick or even a soldier moving into the civilian sector, many do not know the area where to look for work or need help with resume writing. These are some of the many services ACS offers as part of the Employment Readiness Program. This program provides help and resources
to help with career planning, job hunting, resume writing and reviewing,
and transition from the military to the civil sector. Active duty to include military spouses, family members, retirees, and DoD civilians
authorized to use the service.
If the household items haven’t arrived yet and your laptop is inside, no problem. ACS has you covered. An additional component of ERP is a self-service computer laboratory. The laboratory has 6 computers connected to the internet and a printer. The lab is also home to many career-related resources / books
Search, resume writing, interview techniques and much more. The computer room is located in the Community Service Center, Building 1520 Freedman Drive, next to ACS, Suite 125, and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. ACS employees are at your disposal during this time.
ACS has partnerships with
local and national job and career services. Local, ACS
works closely with Frederick County Workforce Services, a
proud partner of the American Job Center network. FCWS
offers computer training and a wide range of job searches
Classes. In addition, personal résumé help and others

At the national level, ACS works with the Department of Defense’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities Program (SECO) and the Military Partnership for Spouse Employment (MSEP). These programs share job advertisements, training opportunities and information about career fairs, which ACS then passes on to its customers through various sales outlets. one

Family counseling program
ACS has a Family Advocacy Program / Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate / FAP Educator on board. Ms. Lisa Long, FAP Manager, leads this role and is dedicated to intimate partner and child abuse prevention, education, prompt reporting, investigation, intervention and treatment. Family Advocacy provides a variety of services to soldiers and families
to improve their relationship skills and improve their quality of life. Some of the services include couple communication, anger management, individual, marriage, family counseling, parenting courses, and more. The FAP program provides non-clinical counseling services and support to soldiers and family members exposed to domestic violence. Domestic
The victim of abuse attorneys are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (24/7 1-301-514-9544) for crisis intervention, safety planning, non-judgmental support, assistance in securing medical treatment for injuries, information about legal rights and procedures, and references to military and civilian resources. The DAVA on call will enable
You to make informed and independent decisions to aid your recovery process. The FAP pedagogue supports educational classes on family advocacy or parts thereof.

Support program for new parents
The New Parent Support Program offers parents of children from toddlers up to three years of age and pregnant women the opportunity to learn new skills and improve old ones. Our employees understand the concerns of parents and the challenges that only military families face. Home visits are the most important form of interaction. Playgroup takes place
every Friday at the Fort Detrick Homes Neighborhood Center.
Monthly parenting education courses are available. New Parental Support Program services that include home visits, parenting education, health-related courses, and liaising with community services for service members and their families. This program offers comprehensive
Services such as family needs analyzes, parent education
Training, information on child development, playgroups, crisis intervention, resource coordination and other support services that prevent child abuse.
