ROMEOVILLE, Illinois – Saturday was a unique opportunity for members of the men’s and women’s cross-country teams at Concordia University Irvine.

About 20 runners were able to travel to the Chicago area to represent the Green and Gold against tough competition at the Lewis Crossover Invitational.

In fact, this event included eight schools with national teams on the men’s side and 11 women’s teams that were also rated on the national level. Concordia was supported by other NCAA DII schools on the west coast in Biola, Western Oregon and Cal State San Marcos, Illinois.

In the men’s category, six of the seven best CUI finishers were in the top 100. Hector Arteaga turned in a top 40 finish and Angel Aguirre was a few steps behind him. This duo followed Juan Sebastian Garcia and upper class Joshua Scheetz and Jacob Dunagin to round off the five points for green and gold.

For the women Jori paradise crossed the finish line as a member of the top 50, with Porshe Eismann just a few steps behind her.

Adriana Gil was the third Eagles to complete the course, followed by Maddie Jahshan. Angelique Antonini and Alana Hurley were away from Jahshan within ten seconds. Madison Templeman rounded off the top 7 for CUI, just ahead Katelyn Wilson.

In the team classification, both Concordia teams finished in the top 15 of around 25 schools that competed in each race.

The CUI Women’s XC Team was recently voted 6th on the regional rankings, as announced by the USTFCCCA for the NCAA DII West Region. The CUI women have been rated regionally for four weeks.
