Elon University / Today at Elon / Elon welcomes parents and families to campus Sept. 30 – Oct. 30. 2 for family weekend

Elon University looks forward to welcoming numerous families to campus September 30-October 2 for the annual Family Weekend. The weekend offers families the opportunity to spend time with their students, learn more about Elon, connect with Elon faculty and staff, and cheer on Phoenix football as they take on the Richmond Spiders.

Weekend activities include a variety of events ranging from Dancing in the Landscape at Lambert Academic Village to Casino Night at Moseley Student Center.

The Family Weekend also includes the first of the speaker series of the year with the Fall Convocation on Friday, September 30 at 3:30 p.m. at the Schar Center with speaker, actress and activist Ashley Judd. Tickets can be purchased for $15 through the Family Weekend website. Admission is free for students, faculty and staff with a valid Elon ID.

On Saturday, October 1, families are invited to join President Connie Ledoux Book and members of Elon’s senior staff for coffee and a continental breakfast at the Young Commons at 8am. Immediately following the event, President Book will host a university update at 9 a.m. in the Alumni Gym.

Families can then connect with their students’ faculty members during Academic Connections from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Cartoonists, giveaways and music before cheering for the Elon football team at Rhodes Stadium as they kick off against Richmond at 2pm.

After the game, support Elon student actors at the ROCKapella event. There are two performances at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Tickets are required and can be purchased in advance on the Family Weekend website.

Friday, 09/30

Registration and check-in

McKinnon Hall, Moseley Student Center | 10 a.m. – 5 p.m

Check in and get your student’s timetable for the Saturday morning faculty meeting, tickets to pre-registered events, family weekend t-shirts, pocket guides, and other useful information. Don’t forget to grab a “Proud” Elon sticker!

Information session: Global Learning and Study Abroad / Study USA

Alumni Gym, Koury Athletic Center | 1pm – 1:45pm

If your student is interested in studying abroad or taking advantage of one of Elon’s Study USA programs, join the staff at the Global Education Center for more information about programs, scholarships, and resources that Elon offers Has.

Fall meeting with Ashley Judd

crowd center | 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m

Ashley Judd is a renowned actress, humanitarian and political activist, celebrated for her starring roles in both box office hits and for her memorable performances in independent films. One of the most vocal and influential figures in the #MeToo movement, Judd was named TIME’s “Person of the Year” as one of the silence breakers and change makers who are helping to change the culture and conversation about sexual abuse and harassment. A feminist and social justice advocate, Judd serves as a Global Goodwill Ambassador for UNFPA, the United Nations Sexual and Reproductive Health Organization; is the Global Ambassador for Population Services International; and is Chair of the Women’s Media Center Speech Project: Curbing Abuse, Expanding Freedom.

Tickets cost $15 per person and are open to the general public. Students can use their Phoenix Card to request a free ticket for themselves at the Center for the Arts box office.

The Elon Wind Ensemble presents a concert near Lake Mary Nell where they will perform a variety of band classics you are sure to enjoy. Feel free to join us by singing or dancing and one lucky spectator will have the chance to conduct the ensemble.

Faculty artists invite Elon families and friends to a mixed program of vocals, piano, percussion, winds, brass and strings. Since its inception in 1999, this program has grown into a much-anticipated family weekend.

Join us for the annual Family Weekend Casino Night! Casino dealers will be on hand to host games like Blackjack, Roulette, Money Wheel, Poker and more! Leave your money at home – you get house money to play at the door and a chance to win great prizes!

Saturday October 1st

Coffee with the President

Young Commons | 8 a.m. – 9 a.m

Join President Connie Ledoux Book, members of Elon’s senior staff, and other Elon families for coffee and a continental breakfast to start your Saturday. Location in case of rain: Hall of Koury Athletic Center.

Uni update

Alumni Gym | 9 – 9:30 a.m

President Book welcomes families and provides information about the university.

Academic Connections

9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m

Enjoy informal conversations with your students’ professors and learn more about teaching at Elon. Professors are available to discuss learning goals and objectives, important assignments, and general information about the course. The meeting points are printed in your student guide, which is available upon check-in.

Football game against Richmond

Rhodes Stadium | 14 o’clock

Cheer on the Phoenix as they take on the Richmond Spiders, a member of the Colonial Athletic Association. Tickets are available through the Family Weekend registration page and will be sent to you digitally. Tickets are final sale; no return or exchange. Students can use their Phoenix Card for a free entry ticket in the student area.

Men’s soccer game vs. Drexel

Night on the Commons
