For University of Nebraska Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, a journey that began in 2017 as an opportunity to lead the campus ends this week as a life-changing experience.
In a video message shared with campus today as his last day as UN Chancellor on Jan.
“All we had to do to accelerate this university campus on its way forward to become the leading metropolitan university in the country was to polish, align and pursue your passions and goals and continue to believe in the ability of the UN to achieve our goals, to really live our mission, ”said Gold. “All we had to do was have the courage to constantly expand, redefine and create the limits, to shape our own future.”
Effective July 1, in addition to resuming his duties as Chancellor of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, he will assume new and expanded roles as Executive Vice President and Provost of the University of Nebraska Systems. Also on July 1, the elected UN Chancellor Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA, will take on the role of UN Chancellor.
In his video message, Chancellor Gold said that the Maverick Spirit will follow him in his next role.
“As our 100,000+ alumni around the world would agree, the Maverick’s identity is not something that disappears or fades when you leave campus,” he said. “It is embodied in you forever. I can confidently say that this embodied identity, this Maverick Spirit, will be my inspiration and truly my North Star as I continue my life journey as UNMC Chancellor and begin a new chapter as Executive Vice President and Provost of the University of Nebraska System. “
In his remarks, Federal Chancellor Gold assured the campus that he would remain part of the UN community.
“I don’t see this as a farewell,” said Chancellor Gold. “As I said in my last State of the University address, this is a university campus that is inexorably linked to this amazing community. I will not be far away physically and even more in spirit. So if we meet on or off campus in the future, please make sure to stop by and say hello. The door will always be open and the light will be on. I thank you for welcoming me into your life and I thank you for changing mine forever. And as always, go to Mavericks. ”
