Gaels slip past Lions – Loyola Marymount University Athletics

MORAGA, Calif. – The LMU men’s soccer team lost 1-0 to Saint Mary’s on Saturday afternoon in Moraga, Calif.

The Gaels scored in the third minute of play and held on in the final minutes, withstanding a barrage of Lions shots to eke out the win.

The first half was mostly forgotten, but the lions came alive in the second half.

Noah Robertson had saved a shot on target with a dramatic leap hand from the Gaels goalkeeper. In the 73rdapprox Minute, Dylan Shockey found space to cross on the right wing and sent a low ball that was led in by Adam Davie right in the way of Robertson who had a great contact with it. He was only stopped with a jump stop by Gael’s goalkeeper Kash Oladapo.

Steven Anderson wobbled by two defenders in the 84th minuteth Minute and put a ball to Davie, who returned it straight. Anderson hit the ball clean but it was blocked by one of the Gaels centre-backs. The ball dropped CJ Neville who had half a chance, but it was swept away.

Neville had another chance to find the net, but Oladapo made another phenomenal dive stop. Neville played a through ball Marco Byers Mora who bore a cross in the face of the goal. The ball came in so hard that Neville didn’t have time to react and the shot went off his chest. Once again it was Oladapo who dived and saved.

The Lions have one game left this season, playing Gonzaga at home on Saturday, November 12. Game starts at 7pm PT.
