LEXINGTON, Kentucky – Herd women’s football (0-2-0) fell 3-0 in its first street competition of the season against the Kentucky Wildcats (1-0-1) on Sunday night in Lexington.

“We showed a lot of growth tonight, especially in the first half,” said women’s football head coach Marshall Michael Schwan said after the game. “But in the second half we got lost both on the ball and on the defensive at the beginning. We have to recover tomorrow and then shift our focus to Ohio University and the next four games.”

Both teams had to fight offensive at the beginning, because in the first 20 minutes of the game the Wildcats’ two lonely shots missed the goal.

Junior Marshall goalkeeper Courtney McVicker then saved two British attempts to keep the game 0-0 in the 22nd and 26th minutes.

Senior striker Kat Gonzalez shot a shot at Kentucky goalkeeper Laura Nielsen, but the shot was blocked in the 34th minute. McVicker followed five minutes later with her third save of half when it stayed 0-0.

Midfielder in the freshman Kayla Denney scored their first shot on goal with 13 seconds to go in the first half, but it was held when the two teams went 0-0 into halftime.

McVicker opened the second half with saves in the 47th and 50th minutes.

Great Britain scored the first goal of the game in the 53rd minute after a shot by Jordyn Rhodes. Rhodes scored their second goal of the competition in the 60th minute to beat MU 2-0.

Freshman Defender Olivia Delicate placed a shot on goal in the 65th minute.

Rhodes found a rebound for a hat trick in the 67th minute when Marshall fell 3-0.

Junior midfielder Iselin Noevik shot a ball on goal, which the British goalkeeper saved in the 70th minute.

McVicker made three more saves in the second half Mira Pasoft saw their first action with the flock and made their first parade in the last minute of the competition.
