Men’s Hockey Drops Saturday Night Contest at Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — The University of Maine men’s hockey team was defeated 5-0 by the Merrimack College Warriors Saturday night at Lawler Rink.

First goal (1-0 Merrimack): The Warriors found the back of the net on their first power play opportunity of the night. Steven Jandric looked like he was going to shoot the puck. Instead, the forward quickly transitioned to Alex Jefferies. Jefferies Merrimack put an early lead on with a one-off pass into the back net.

Second goal (2-0 Merrimack): Max Newton scored his team’s second goal of the first period after Black Bear’s power play opportunity passed. Jandric found the untagged Newton who did the rest. By the end of 20:00, Maine were trailing 2-0.

Third goal (3-0 Merrimack): With a 5-on-3 advantage, the Warriors extended their lead. Ben Brar tipped home a Declan Carlile shot that came from the blue line. At the start of the second period, the Black Bears were three goals behind.

Fourth goal (4-0 Merrimack): Jandric, the fourth different scorer for the Warriors, lit the lamp 4:27 of the third period.

Fifth goal (5-0 Merrimack): Just over three minutes later, Jandric scored another goal. It was the last goal of the night as Maine lost 5-0 to Merrimack.

Remarks: Victor Ostman stopped 39 shots for the Black Bears while Hugo Ollas made 28 saves for Merrimack.

Maine went 0 for 5 on his power play opportunity while the Warriors were 2-3 on his player advantages.

The Black Bears blocked four shots and won 40 faceoffs as a team.

Next: Maine returns to the ice next Friday, February 11 at UMass. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
