Men’s lacrosse draws No. 3 Penn in NCAA tournament

RICHMOND, Va.— The University of Richmond men’s lacrosse program returns to the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in program history and the first time since 2019 when the Spiders travel to Philadelphia and face third-ranked University of Pennsylvania.

Southern Conference Tournament Champion Spiders meets Ivy League Champion Penn Quakers at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Penn Park. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU.

Richmond earned automatic bid for the NCA tournament thanks to a 10-9 win over No. 9 Jacksonville Saturday afternoon at Vert Stadium in High Point at the SoCon Championship, his fifth straight win while entering the NCAA tournament.

Richmond are officially one of 18 teams with a chance to contend for a national championship when the tournament kicks off with two play-in games this week. The first round will take place on May 14-15 and the quarterfinals on May 21-22. The national semifinals will be held on May 28 and the national championship on May 30 at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut.

The Spiders will compete in an NCAA tournament for the fourth time since the program began in 2014. Richmond was a 2014, 2018 and 2019 participant in the 2018 NCAA tournament and the runner-up Duke in 2019.
