Men’s soccer wins three weekly Patriot League awards

BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania— Hours after he helped lead the Boston University men’s soccer team to a thrilling 1-0 win at No. 9 New Hampshire, Senior Ryan LeeSenior Francesco Montali and graduate student Evan Morrison have claimed weekly Patriot League awards, the conference bureau said Monday afternoon.

The announcement marks the first time since 2018 that the terriers have received three awards. Lee (midfielder) and Morrison (defender) both received their first career awards, while Montali was named goalkeeper of the week for the third time since the start of the 2021 campaign.

BU preceded their highest-ranking win since a 1-0 win over then-No. 4/1 St John’s in 2009 with a 1-1 season-opening draw at Albany to open a season in which he made his first unbeaten in two games since 2014.

Lee delivered the knockout blow at UNH, lunging at a loose ball near midfield and making a strong run to the box. He scored his second career goal and first game winner with a hard shot past the falling goalkeeper.

Montali made seven saves in the two duels, including five against the Wildcats after the Great Danes converted a 23rd-minute penalty. Morrison anchored the backline who helped Montali clear 18 UNH corner kicks to save the shutout.

The Terriers will next open the home game schedule by taking on Saint Joseph’s for the first time in program history on Friday (September 2) at 6 p.m
