Nevada County Supervisors Respond to Letter of Intent for Recall – YubaNet

A memorandum of understanding was served on all five Nevada County supervisors. They submitted their replies to the notice, one of the steps in a recall process. Here are their answers.

Heidisaal – District 1

This recall request for Supervisor Heidi Hall makes claims that are proven to be false and misleading and has a misguided understanding of how the county works. The county has a responsibility to follow the rule of law in executing public health mandates and to support our health professionals who are following the best medical advice available. We have done this while simultaneously using state and federal funds to provide an unprecedented level of support to our local businesses, nonprofits and cultural institutions (ca pandemic. Ed Scofield – District 2

COVID has caused governments of all sizes to make tough decisions. The county has adhered to the rule of law through its board of directors in the implementation of public health mandates and supports our health professionals who follow the best available medical advice. We have done this while using local, state and federal funds to provide an unprecedented level of support to our local businesses, nonprofits, and cultural institutions to help them weather the economic aftermath of the pandemic. Throughout the pandemic, your board of directors has continued the work of the district government. The board has managed to build more low-income homes, provide services and housing for the homeless, expand broadband, and double our vegetation management, prevention and response efforts; Ensure tax stability as we expand our mental health services, improve our roads, support legal cannabis, while increasing enforcement against illicit cultivation and providing full support to citizens. This recall petition is unwarranted, a waste of your government time and a waste of your tax dollars.

Dan Miller – District 3

I spent 31 years in the public service making fact-based decisions in order to best serve the people I represent.

I helped lead efforts to disburse more than $ 1 million in federal, state, and local Covid-19 funding to companies and nonprofits in the Third District. I assisted the county’s Environmental Health Department with strategies that would enable companies to stay open despite sweeping shutdown orders from the state. I have personally and in writing reached out to the county health officer to have closure and quarantine orders lifted when the facts showed they were ineffective.

This recall is an emotional response and a desperate attempt by a fringe group who failed to get their way. Your claims are not credible and do not stand up to the test of the truth.

For example, drones do not perform “searchless searches” but are a tool in the county’s efforts to identify and eliminate illegal cannabis cultivation.

I have not made possible “crimes against humanity” but tried to protect the health of citizens in the face of a deadly virus. I have wholeheartedly supported the use of therapeutics as a medical response for those infected with the virus.

Partisan politics never influenced my decisions. I ask the voters of the Third District to decline the recall.

Sue Hoek – District 4

This recall is controversial, expensive and unnecessary. It will cost District 4 taxpayers up to $ 250,000, money better spent on fire safety, schools, and helping local businesses. This seat is up for election in June 2022, with voters having the option of voting for the candidate of their choice in a regular election.

The petition makes claims that are false and misleading. The district is obliged to comply with the rule of law when implementing public health contracts. We have done so while providing unprecedented support to local businesses, nonprofits and cultural institutions to help them survive this pandemic. Hardy Bullock – District 5

This recall request makes claims that are false, unfounded, misleading, and wholly fabricated and unfounded. This recall will cost taxpayers $ 492,000 to $ 685,000.

The petitioners do not understand how local government works. The county has a responsibility to follow the rule of law in executing public health mandates and to support our health professionals who are following the best medical advice available. We did this while using state and federal CARES / ARPA funds to provide an unprecedented level of $ 8,800,000 in support to our local businesses, nonprofits, and cultural and educational institutions to help them out survive the economic consequences of the pandemic. This board of directors has managed to build low-income housing, provide services for the homeless, expand broadband, redouble forest fire containment efforts, ensure financial stability, expand mental health services, improve roads, support legal cannabis, to strengthen the enforcement of illegal cultivation, coordinated with our cities and communities and provided constituent aid.
