Wednesday, February 9 Fostering Responsibility and Independence: The Importance of Positive Communication at Home, School and Community (Personal), 10am-12pm. Join us at the Brubeck Room for an in-person session with school psychologist David P. Sylvestro. Though Detroit automakers have made “planned obsolescence” a dirty word, it’s okay to think of obsolescence as an important part of parenting. After all, as parents, we want to guide, shape and prepare our children so well that they actually don’t NEED us anymore! By keeping our children’s eventual independence in mind, we can provide them with reasonable parameters, help them set goals, and determine the responsibilities they can take on. An important part of this process is strengthening our own positive communication skills – how we encourage and strengthen our children’s development in these essential areas.

School psychologist David P. Sylvestro, MA, CSP will discuss how parents can foster responsibility and independence through positive interactions with their children who suffer from LD, ADHD, and executive functioning. Dave has been the School Psychologist at Eagle Hill Schools for over 40 years and currently serves in that position at Southport School. He facilitates individual and group counseling sessions, parent support groups and fathers-only groups, provides training and personal development for professionals, and presents at LD conferences worldwide. Co-funded by Wilton Library, SPED*NET Wilton, Wilton Youth Council and Wilton Public Schools. Registration is required. Please register online or call 203-762-6334.
