Speaker of the “Capture the Flag” competition to highlight the activities of Purdue University’s Global Cybersecurity Awareness Month

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University Global will commemorate Cybersecurity Awareness Month with a variety of activities in October and invites the public to participate and raise cybersecurity awareness personally and professionally.

Purdue Global will host two events as part of its ongoing speaker series. Laurent Boucard, Professor of Cybersecurity, reached out to his network and made Purdue Global available to individuals who share their experience and knowledge to support computer science and cybersecurity students in their educational and career path. These events are open to the first 250 participants:

* Oct. 12, 7 p.m. ET – George Bailey, Assistant Director, Cyber ​​Services, Purdue University cyberTAP. Bailey monitors and implements information security solutions for small and medium-sized businesses. He is an IT security professional with over 25 years of experience in system administration, network security, remote access, wireless security, and incident response.

* Oct. 26, 7 p.m. ET – David Cass, Vice President, Cyber ​​and IT Risk, Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Cass has extensive experience in cybersecurity, data protection, risk management, regulatory compliance, business continuity, disaster recovery, cloud and blockchain transformation for financial services. Previous positions include Chief Information Security Officer and Global Partner of Cloud Security Services at IBM, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer at Elsevier, and Vice President of Risk Management at JPMorgan Chase.

The School of Business and Information Technology is hosting a “Capture the Flag” (CTF) computer security contest that begins October 15 at 5:00 pm ET and lasts 72 hours and ends at 5:00 pm on October. 18. The competition will be a Jeopardy-style event! be for single player. Most of the challenges will be entry-level; However, there will be several intermediate and advanced challenges included. The security challenges will cover a variety of cybersecurity categories including general topics, networks, cryptography, and software.

The competition will also be part of a research study. Players must agree to the research study and answer some demographic questions before competing. Purdue Global students take part in a variety of activities to improve their skills. Those new to the cybersecurity industry will enjoy the playful experience with Circadence’s Project Ares. They also compete in the National Cyber ​​League’s CTF competition every season. More experienced students also deal with Hivestorm and the NICE Challenges. While the students are completing their bachelor’s or master’s degree, they have the opportunity to put their skills to the test.
