Spider Field Hockey falls to Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The University of Richmond field hockey team lost 1-0 to BigTen opponents from Indiana University in the fourth quarter at the IU Field Hockey Complex on Sunday. The Spiders drop to 1-6 in the year while the Hoosiers rise to 5-3 in the season.

Richmond dominated possession in the first quarter, conceding three penalty corners and taking four shots with two on goal for the seniors Steffie Bongers (Weert, Netherlands). The Spiders received another shot in the second quarter, but the Hoosier defense halted Richmond’s offensive plan in the second half.

Sophomore year students Olivia De Cain (Bryn Mawr, Penn.) and Ella Hayes (Virginia Beach, Virginia), as well as senior Addie Nash (Midlothian, Virginia) each fired a shot at Indiana.

Spider goalkeeper Erika Latta (Midlothian, Virginia) collected seven saves, six of them in the fourth quarter, with 22 counter shots.

Indiana received 14 of their 17 penalty corners in the second half. The Hoosiers also made 19 of their 22 shots in the final 30 minutes of the game.

Richmond returns to action against Atlantic 10 opponent LaSalle on Friday at Crenshaw Field. The 6pm competition can also be streamed on ESPN Plus.
