Thompson claims REX Hospital is open for first pro win

RALEIGH, NC— Graduated from the University of Georgia Davis Thompson won his first Korn Ferry Tour title on Sunday at the REX Hospital Open, carding 17-under overall in four rounds at The Country Club at Wakefield Plantation for a one-shot win over Andrew Yun and Vincent Norrman.

Thompson, who first earned Korn Ferry Tour membership via second place at the inaugural PGA TOUR University presented by Velocity Global Ranking in 2021, led by a 2-stroke lead into the finals at Raleigh-Durham metroplex. After a 3-under 33 on Sunday’s front nine, Thompson recovered from two early back-nine bogeys with a birdie on the par-5 15 that gave the winning edge.

Thompson, who celebrated his 23rd birthday on Sunday, moves up to 9th on the Korn Ferry Tour regular season points list as he views his first PGA TOUR card via The 25.

“I’m speechless,” Thompson said after losing a short par putt on the 72nd hole to cement his win. “I don’t know what to say. I’ve worked so hard and it feels good to have made it. I faced some adversity in the back nine but ended up strong. Man, that feels great.”

Thompson is the 13th Bulldog to play under Georgia’s head coach Chris Hack to earn a win at the Korn Ferry Tour. These 13 grads have a combined 24 KFT wins, including Joey Garber’s REX Hospital Open win in 2018.

Spencer RalstonThompson’s teammate at Georgia, finished at 11-under 10th.
