Women’s cross country wins regional preview

Spartanburg, SC – Women’s Cross Country won its second straight tournament on Saturday morning. The event, hosted by Converse University, was a regional preview with a field of 22 teams. The Bears won the event with a score of 53 and a team total of 1: 53.46. Emory finished second with a score of 61 and a total time of 1: 54.24 while SAC opponents Anderson (SC) and Wingate finished third and fourth.

Janet Kwambai and Caroline Hilliard took third and fourth place overall for the Bears among the 206 individual competitors. Kwambai finished the race at 10:05 p.m. and Hillard right behind her at 10:17 p.m. Kylie Dahlberg was the third bear in the top 10 with a 9th place in a time of 10:45 p.m. Kathrin Polke was 13th ten seconds behind Dahlberg.

Adie Bjerkness (27.), Elizabeth Kessler (38.), Pierson McManus (55th) gave the Bears all seven runners in the top 55 to help the Bears take the team title.

In the men’s category, The Bears finished 18th out of 26 teams. The Bears finished with a score of 494 and a team time of 2: 25.14. Sean Incardona led the Bears in 41st place with a 27:11 time, up 12 seconds from his time two weeks ago.

Both teams will travel to Charlotte next weekend to attend the Queen City Invite.
