Women’s tennis preview: Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic

GREENVILLE, SC – Six University of Texas tennis athletes will compete in the 34th Annual Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic on September 17-19, Friday through Sunday, at the Mickel Tennis Center on the Furman University campus. The tournament will be played in singles as well as in doubles (no team competition, only single flying champions in singles and doubles).

Senior Fernanda Labraña, Junior Gabby Cusano, Second graders Malaika Rapolu and Simran Kortiker and freshmen Bella Zamarripa and Grace Thomas will compete in singles. UT will have three double teams in action, with Zamarripa / Rapolu, Thomas / Labraña and Cusano / Kortikere representing the Longhorns.

The tournament will feature players from 13 teams from around the country, including Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Hosts Furman, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.

Two rounds of doubles will be played on Friday, followed by one round of singles. Saturday’s game consists of a round of doubles followed by a round of singles. The action on Sunday includes a round of singles. The game begins at 8 a.m. CT (9 a.m. ET) each day.
