Seven wins, 12 season bests in the April finals

EUGENE, Arch.— Kemba Nelson and Micah Williams Each amassed three wins tied with a first place finish at the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday night Mia Morck At the OSU High Performance in Corvallis, the Oregon track and field team ended the month with seven stage wins.

In mirror image, Nelson and Williams each ran a leg of victorious 4x100m relays before ending the night in the desert with victories in the 100m and 200m.

Led by Moerck, the UO women captured the top three spots and placed four in the top five in the 800 meters. Moerck finished with a new outdoor PR, stopping the clock in 2:06.24 to erase a previous best of 2:06.47 from last year’s NCAA West Preliminary. She was placed in the top 5 by teammates Carly Kleefeld (2:07.10), McKenna Ramsay (2:08.20 – just before her PR) and Nicole Louv (2:11.51).

The Ducks swept the 4×100 relay, with the UO women posting a season best of 42.93 to finish well ahead of runner-up San Diego State (44.32). Based on times entering the night, Nelson’s team, Jady Mays, jasmine reed and Jasmine Montgomery achieved a top 10 time in the NCAA that season and advanced to 7th on the program’s all-time list.

On the men’s side, Williams teamed up with Rieker Daniel, Will Mundy and Xavier Nairne to bring the baton across the track in 39.12 for the win. This period also makes them the #7 quartet in UO history.

Nelson (11.10) and Williams (10.02) secured the top spots in the 100m. Nelson led a 1-2-3 finish for the Oregon women followed by teammates Jady Mays with a personal best of 11.16 and Jasmine Montgomery Sailing at 11.35am, a season best for the newcomer. May’s time earns her a spot at No. 8 on the UO Top 10 list. Williams and Nairne (10.30) were 1-2 in the men’s race.

In the 200 meters, Williams lowered his PR to a 20.35 to take the top spot in the Pac-12 from Stanford’s Udodi Onwuzurike (20.38). This mark also moves Williams from #6 to #3 on the UO all-time chart. For Nelson, she stopped the clock at 10:80 p.m. for a personal best of her own. She and Mays are now tied for the fastest time in the Pac-12 and 10th in program history.

In her second race of the evening Shana Grebo finished second in the 400 meter hurdles at the Desert Heat Classic. She crossed the finish line in 57.20, just 0.05 behind Arizona’s Shannon Meisberger. The two started the day with two best times in the Pac-12. Previously, Grebo ran a personal best of 13.56 in the 100m hurdles, cementing her place at No. 8 in UO history.

Mundy, after winning the 4x100m relay, set his own lifetime best with a third place finish in the 400m hurdles. The Portland native posted a time of 50.71 to dwarf his previous PR of 51.36 from last year’s NCAA West preliminary round. Mundy started his day with a fifth place finish (14.41) in the 110m hurdles.

At the OSU High Performance Meeting, Eric Lyons (65.55m/215-0) finished second in the javelin as the Ducks’ top performer Ash Krauel and jet kids in third and fifth place. On lap three, Krauel brought the javelin to 64.72m/212-4 to set a new lifetime best.
