Men’s Basketball Announces Non-Conference Schedule 2021-22

Austin, Texas – A home game against Tennessee, street competitions at Gonzaga and Seton Hall, and an off-road competition in Las Vegas against Stanford highlight the University of Texas 2021-22 basketball non-conference schedule released on Tuesday. In addition, the Longhorns will play Sam Houston State during the regular season at Gregory High School on the UT campus on November 29, marking the first men’s basketball game at this historic location since February 26, 1977. The Sam Houston State Das Game in Gregory is not included in the 2021-22 season ticket package.

Texas is slated to host nine regular home competitions without conferences in the Frank Erwin Center’s final year. The schedule for the Big 12 conference has not yet been set. Notice times and the complete television schedule for the 2021/22 season will be announced as soon as available.

Texas will host Texas Lutheran University in an exhibition competition on Monday, November 1st. Former UT star Mike Wacker (1981-85) is the head coach of Texas Lutheran. Entry to the exhibition game against Texas Lutherans is free.

The Longhorns open the regular season with a home game against Houston Baptist on Tuesday November 9th before heading to national power Gonzaga on Saturday November 13th. Texas welcomes Northern Colorado (Nov. 17), San Jose State (Nov.). 20) and California Baptist (Nov. 24) at the Abe Lemons Classic, a multi-team event at the Erwin Center that pays tribute to the legendary UT basketball head coach.

The Longhorns will receive Sam Houston State at the historic Gregory High School on Monday, November 29th, and compete against UTRGV on Friday, December 3rd, at the Frank Erwin Center. Meet Seton Hall as part of the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle.

Texas returns to Austin for a home game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday, December 14, before playing in the Pac-12 Coast-to-Coast Challenge in T-Mobile in Las Vegas on Sunday, December 19 Arena against Stanford. The Longhorns will host Rice on Wednesday December 22nd and Incarnate Word on Tuesday December 28th before the Big 12 conference opens in the first week of the new year.

UT will drop out of the league for a home game against Tennessee on Saturday, January 29, as part of the Big 12 / SEC Challenge. The game in Tennessee marks the return of former Longhorns head coach Rick Barnes to the Erwin Center. Barnes, the most successful coach of all time in program history, served as head coach in Texas for 17 years (1998-99 to 2014-15), setting an overall record of 402-180 (.691).
