Pitt County Child Support Services offer free DNA testing

PITT COUNTY, NC (WITN) — The Pitt County Department of Child Support Services plans to offer free confidential DNA testing.

The test, offered in support of Child Support Awareness Month, will be held Thursday, August 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Pitt County Human Services Center at 203 Government Circle in Greenville

The department says all fees for DNA testing will be waived and that no appointment is required.

Test program requirements include:

  • Fatherhood has to be an issue.
  • Parents are asked to bring a government-issued ID and birth certificate for each child.
  • Participants must contact child support and applications will be accepted the same day. A $10.00 or $25.00 fee may apply.

According to CSS, unemployed or underemployed non-custodial parents can speak to a Pitt County Child Support Employment Services social worker about the Parent Training and Employment Support Program.

The STEPP program, which began in April 2021, helps citizens with employment support, job search training, career exploration, skills training, resume writing, educational support and tuition.
