The United States Postal Service’s Operation Santa program helps children get presents for Christmas

SPRINGFIELD, Mon. (KY3) – Many Christmas traditions come with this time of year and one of those traditions is writing a letter to Santa Claus. The United States Postal Service’s Operation Santa program allows you to answer any of these letters and help make a child’s Christmas wishes come true.

This is how the program works. Children can write letters to Santa Claus. Once the letter reaches the North Pole, the hardworking elves remove all personal information from the letter before it is posted online.

Anyone can accept a letter and buy gifts from the list. A QR code is linked to the letter so that a post employee scans it in when the presents are handed over to the post office and attaches the address label without revealing any personal data.

“It’s always great to help those who are less fortunate than us, and we all have a hand in hand every now and then,” said Mark Inglett, USPS strategic communications specialist. “It’s our turn to help and we love to do that. Everyone is very excited behind the scenes. Santa Claus has a lot of helpers in the background and we are happy to be on this team. “

This Christmas season, if you want to adopt a letter and give it away as a gift, you must first register online, then go through the letters and choose one to adopt.

“You can check letters from people and children who may be a little less fortunate than us,” Inglett said. So all of these letters will continue to be updated. And what you can do, you can look for letters and look at something that you might be able to help someone with. “

Letters are quickly accepted and refreshed daily at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. east coast time.

“We have already accepted 9,300 letters, and that number continues to grow,” said Inglett. “It’s a great program. We’ll open them and put them online ASAP, but you won’t necessarily see the letter you sent if you sent it for one of your family members or your child. ”

Because this program is based on the generosity of strangers, there is no guarantee that a gift will arrive in your mailbox. Your child can participate in Operation Santa by sending a letter to 123 Elf Road North Pole, 88888. send
