PHILADELPHIA–(BUSINESS WIRE) – On Thursday, September 23, Aramark Employees around the world will attend Aramark Building Community (ABC) Day. Rooted in the company’s service culture, thousands of employees are rethinking what social engagement looks like and is in times of COVID voluntary work in a variety of personal and virtual projects, as part of the company’s annual hospitality, facility, and unified service day.

“Aramark employees are resilient, passionate and united in our goal of having a positive impact on people and the environment. Although COVID has had an impact on in-person volunteering activities, we continue to strive to creatively support our nonprofit community partners by providing grants, organizing small local activities and hosting several virtual events, ”said Jami Leveen, Vice President of Community Partnerships at Aramark. “I would like to thank the dozen volunteer project leaders across the company who are committed to supporting our endeavors. We couldn’t do it without them. ”

Aramark gives back in a number of ways on this ABC day. More than 80 small, local projects are being carried out in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Chile and South Korea.

GRANTS

Aramark made nearly 70 grants to nonprofits in the U.S. and internationally to improve access to healthy eating, personal health and wellness kits, back to school supplies, and ongoing COVID-19-related emergency cleaning and safety supplies. In addition to these grants, the company donated 10,000 disposable 3-ply masks to boys ‘and girls’ clubs in Dallas, TX and Brookhaven, GA.

PLANTING TREES

Employees in Nashville, Tennessee, will plant trees in the neighborhood hardest hit by the devastating March 2020 tornado to add much-needed restoration to the area and improve the area’s quality of life and health for residents.

VIRTUAL PROJECTS

Aramark hosts virtual volunteer events in support of its community partners in Chicago, Dallas, and Philadelphia. Staff will build kits that will go direct to families and students and will include:

  • Environmental exploration kits to encourage students to be more concerned with the world around them.

  • Healthy meal sets to inspire families to grow their own fresh herbs and discover nutritious recipes from Aramark Healthy for life Nutritional Education Curriculum.

  • Outdoor camping kits as part of a special program for orphaned and vulnerable children and families.

  • Welcome kits with basic cleaning and household items for single parents in crisis who move to a permanent home.

EMPLOYEE RESOURCE GROUPS

Aramarks Employee resource groups (ERGs) are an important part of corporate culture. Each ERG represents a growing network of dedicated and passionate employees who voice the diverse communities that make up Aramark’s workforce and market while creating a more inclusive workplace. This year, several ERG executives organized ABC Day projects that benefited a number of nonprofits and created numerous volunteering opportunities for employees across the organization. Projects included providing grant funding to expand access to therapies that support women, transgender and gender neutral communities (Pride); donate 100 backpacks filled with school supplies and haircut / hairdressing vouchers (LEAD and Impacto); Organization of a career workshop and a campaign for school and kitchen supplies (Empower) and compilation of 350 kits for school supplies and a thank you card writing campaign to support military families (Salute).
